VU Scholarships

The Virtual University of Pakistan provides financial assistance to deserving students through a variety of scholarships. These scholarships are designed to promote academic excellence and support students in need.

1. Title & Commencement

These regulations are officially named the “Student Scholarship Regulations, 2015” and came into effect from the Fall 2015 semester, superseding the previous 2010 regulations.

2. Scope & Application

These scholarships apply to all regular students enrolled in any degree program of the Virtual University of Pakistan.

3. Key Definitions

  • Board: Board of Governors of VU
  • Campus: Any VU campus
  • Management Committee: Committee managing scholarships and financial assistance
  • Student: Registered VU student
  • All other terms follow the Virtual University Ordinance 2002 definitions.

4. Objectives of Scholarships

  • Merit-based: To encourage academic excellence.
  • Need-based: To support students requiring financial assistance.

5. Management Committee

Scholarships are overseen by a Management Committee consisting of:

  • Registrar (Chairman)
  • Controller of Examinations (Member)
  • Two Regional Campus Managers nominated by the Rector (Members)
  • Director Finance (Member/Secretary)

Quorum: minimum three members. The term for nominated members is two years, and the Committee meets at least twice per academic year.

6. Merit Scholarships

  • Partial or full tuition fee remission; other dues must be paid.
  • Valid for one semester only.
  • Eligibility: Students not receiving other scholarships and without exemptions.
  • Students must have no failed or repeated courses to remain eligible.
  • Termination occurs if the student freezes, withdraws, or is convicted of disciplinary cases.
  • Award to new students: ≥65% marks OR CGPA 3.0/4.0 OR 4.0/5.0.
  • Award to continuing students: minimum semester GPA 3.25 with CGPA ≥3.0.

7. Need-Based Scholarships

  • Partial or full tuition remission; other dues apply.
  • Valid for one semester only.
  • Eligibility: Students not receiving other financial assistance and without course exemptions.
  • Students must maintain minimum GPA to continue receiving the scholarship (2.25 semester GPA, CGPA 2.50).
  • Award is limited to local students only, determined by annual budget allocation.

8. Award Criteria & Selection

  • Scholarships awarded based on merit lists compiled for each program.
  • Top students on merit lists are selected; ties resolved by previous exam marks or date of birth.
  • Number and amount of scholarships are subject to availability of funds.
  • Management Committee decisions are final and may be updated periodically.
